A **publication** consists of
  * a document identifier (id)
  * a [[..:..:swissdox:core:source|source]] consisting of code and name
  * a rubric as free text (optional)
  * regional information (optional)
  * a [[..:..:swissdox:core:pubtime|publication time]]
  * an import date

An **article** consists of
  * the [[..:..:swissdox:core:content|article content]] in XML format
  * a [[..:..:swissdox:core:doctype|document type]] (optional)
  * a [[..:..:swissdox:core:language|language]] specifier
  * dateline (optional), head and subhead (optional)
  * information on the character count
  * information on whether it has been digitized from printed material

Each article can have been published several times. Different articles may share the same article content.
